Description

The Toscana Tenuta Tignanello Solaia by Marchesi Antinori is born in the vineyard of the same name located in the Chianti Classico area and is produced only during exceptional vintages.

It is made with 75% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, 20% Sangiovese grapes, and 5% Cabernet Franc grapes, harvested from late September to mid-October. Once at the winery, the bunches are delicately destemmed and the berries carefully selected before crushing. Fermentation and maceration take place in 60 hl truncated cone-shaped tanks, then the wine is placed in barriques for malolactic fermentation, to enhance its finesse and pleasantness. Subsequently, it matures in French and Hungarian oak barrels for about 18 months, after which the different batches, vinified separately according to the variety, are assembled to create the final blend.

Vintage 1999

The 1999 vintage offered ideal climatic conditions for viticulture in Tuscany, with a hot and dry summer that allowed for homogeneous grape maturation. The harvest took place under optimal conditions, enhancing the qualitative potential of the varieties used in Solaia. The combination of favorable seasonal trends and rigorous agronomic practices resulted in perfectly healthy and concentrated grapes.

Solaia 1999 is a red wine produced with a selection of the best Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, and Cabernet Franc grapes from the vineyard of the same name located in the Tignanello estate. This cru, positioned in a particularly suited area of the Val di Pesa, yielded in this vintage an intense and profound expression of the terroir, able to combine structure and aromatic complexity.

The wine presents itself with an intense ruby red color. On the nose, complex aromas of ripe black fruits, sweet spices, and light vanilla nuances emerge, due to the aging in barriques. On the palate, it reveals itself as powerful and structured, with well-integrated tannins supporting a broad and persistent texture, balancing elegance and intensity.
